California Indian Museum rooftop solar array in Santa Rosa, California

Solution

Solar + Battery = Microgrid

The California Indian Museum and Cultural Center exists to culturally enrich and benefit the people of California and the general public by showcasing California Native Indian cultures.

Objectives

The California Indian Museum was experiencing frequent power outages and needed to keep operations open during outage events. It wanted a battery system that could be recharged by a solar array to keep the site fully operational, and the entire project needed to be completed in time to satisfy a grant deadline.

Challenges

Frequent outages threatened continuity, and the project had to be delivered on a compressed nonprofit grant timeline. The solution also needed to pair solar production with storage so the museum could sustain operations rather than simply lower utility bills.

Solution Delivered

A solar-plus-storage resilience project delivered on deadline.

Simmitri designed and delivered a solar-plus-battery system that helps the museum stay operational through outages while also reducing ongoing energy dependence. By aligning design, procurement, and installation around the grant schedule, the team was able to hit the required timing without sacrificing resilience goals.

  • Solar + battery microgrid strategy
  • Designed for outage continuity
  • Grant-timeline coordination
  • Supports public-facing nonprofit operations

Church + school campus$0 out-of-pocket finance goalTile-roof solar integration
Advent Lutheran Church rooftop solar array in Morgan Hill, California

Solution

Solar

Advent Lutheran Church's mission centers on changed lives through Christ's love, while its campus also supports a local charter school and broader community outreach in South County.

Objectives

Advent wanted to reduce a growing electric bill for both the church and school while protecting the integrity of its tile roofs. It also needed a nonprofit financing structure that could leverage solar incentives to lower the site's existing electricity rate.

Challenges

The older tile roof required careful solar integration to preserve waterproofing and long-term roof performance. Inverters and switchgear also had to be placed in a school playground area, requiring coordination around the school schedule, and the economics had to work with a zero-out-of-pocket financing approach.

Solution Delivered

Tile-roof solar designed for durability and nonprofit-friendly financing.

Simmitri engineered a two-layer roof attachment and flashing strategy so the solar system protected roof integrity instead of compromising it. The first flashing was sealed at the roof deck with a Storm Guard leak barrier for a 20+ year seal, while a custom top flashing was fabricated to match the existing tile and provide a 25-year warranty. To make the economics work, Simmitri structured the project around nonprofit PPA financing that kept upfront cost at zero while providing a long-term energy rate advantage.

  • Custom flashing matched to existing tile

Meditation Center rooftop solar panels in Morgan Hill, California

Solution

Solar

DMCSV, or Dhammakaya Meditation Center Silicon Valley, is a nonprofit organization that has helped people find peace within themselves for more than a decade in Morgan Hill.

Objectives

The Meditation Center wanted to reduce operating costs, lessen reliance on fossil fuels, and bring long-term value to the organization. Because it had just installed a new roof, it specifically wanted a local partner capable in both roofing and solar.

Challenges

Financing was the key difficulty. The system size was small, making a cash-flow-positive scenario with 100% financing difficult, and the center wanted to own the system rather than use a PPA. The solar install also needed to be coordinated with a new roof so the overall project remained cost-effective.

Solution Delivered

Ownership-focused solar financed through Direct Pay and long-term lending.

Simmitri structured the project around a 25-year loan and the Inflation Reduction Act's Direct Pay program, which lets tax-exempt organizations receive clean-energy tax credits as direct payments. That approach created the best path for the center to own its system while materially offsetting project cost — a better fit than a PPA for this organization and its long-term goals.

  • 25-year nonprofit loan structure
  • Direct Pay IRA incentives utilized
  • System ownership retained by the center
  • Solar coordinated with a brand-new roof

Objectives

St. Clare's Retreat wanted to reduce operational costs and go green by eliminating its high electric bill with solar power.

Challenges

The retreat center needed a solar provider with roofing expertise because it had experienced roof leaks in the past. It also needed nonprofit financing that could put the project in a cash-flow-positive position from day one.

Solution Delivered

Roof-aware solar sized for full offset and financed for immediate savings.

Simmitri completed a comprehensive energy assessment to determine the best strategy and uncover any meaningful efficiency opportunities. The team then designed a solar system sized to offset 100% of the retreat's electric bill and paired it with PPA financing, allowing the project to move forward with no money out of pocket and savings from day one. Planning, engineering, procurement, and utility coordination were all handled as part of a single turnkey delivery.

Marin City Townhomes HOA community with new asphalt-shingle roofs in Marin City, California

Solution

Roofing + Leaf Guard

With 85 properties under management, the Marin City Townhomes HOA needed a reliable roofing partner to upgrade and maintain every home in the community with consistent service, performance, and communication.

Objectives

The HOA needed to replace every roof across its 85-property community and wanted a partner that could deliver excellent service, performance, and communication. They were cautious going in because previous roofers had failed to deliver, so consistency at scale was just as important as the roof itself.

Challenges

During the project the team discovered that plumbing throughout the community was not done to code — pipes were fastened to the underside of the roof deck, meaning standard roofing nails could puncture them and cause leaks and ceiling damage. With the pipes hidden from view, locating them was extremely difficult. Simmitri shortened the nail-gun gauge, strategically removed small areas of roof deck to map the pipe runs, and then marked the top of the deck so installers could nail safely around them.

Solution Delivered

A manufacturer-warranted Golden Pledge roof system across all 85 homes.

Simmitri was the only company that offered a manufacturer-installed and warranted roof system for the community. The GAF "Golden Pledge" system shifts liability from the HOA onto GAF, with both labor and material warranties carried by the manufacturer for up to 50 years. That means the HOA's insurance premiums can be reduced and future roof reserves can be reallocated to other community priorities. Simmitri also installed gutter leaf guard across the entire community to protect the new roof investment.

  • GAF Golden Pledge manufacturer-installed roof system
  • Up to 50-year labor and material warranty
  • Liability transferred from HOA to GAF
  • Community-wide gutter leaf guard installed
