Solution

Energy Efficiency + Solar + Roofing

Bench-Tek is a 25+ year family-owned Silicon Valley manufacturer of custom metal benches, carts, and racks for cleanrooms and office spaces. Its American-made product quality has helped earn high-profile customers including Tesla and Apple, and the project was later featured in Apple's 2023 Sustainability Report.

Objectives

Bench-Tek wanted to improve sustainability, lower carbon emissions, and reduce operating expenses. Just as importantly, the company saw sustainability as a business-development lever that could strengthen its position with large corporate manufacturing customers, so it needed a local partner fluent in solar, roofing, and broader efficiency strategy.

Challenges

The flat roof was in decent condition, but not strong enough to support a long-term solar investment without creating future risk. Simmitri had to find the most cost-effective path to eliminate long-term roof issues, keep the project cash-flow positive, and structure financing that could cover both the new roof and the solar installation together.

Solution Delivered

A roofing-first solar system built for cash-flow-positive growth.

Before the solar install, Simmitri applied a 20-year silicone cool-roof system that both waterproofed the building and improved energy efficiency. We then designed an elevated solar array so the roof deck remains serviceable underneath the system over time. The system was sized to cover 100% of Bench-Tek's usage and maximize both savings and carbon offsets. To make the performance visible to customers and visitors, Simmitri also installed a lobby display showing live solar production and carbon reduction metrics — a sustainability story strong enough to be featured in Apple's 2023 Sustainability Report.

Great company. Solar appointment was the best I have seen and very informative — no pressure and very polite approach focusing on my interests and needs. System was installed and it was a great experience.
